This is your final reminder to collect water for our ingathering worship on September 9! We will have our annual homecoming worship service where we pour out water to intermingle our hopes and dreams for the year ahead. This is the water that is cleaned, filtered, and used for child dedications in our community. We always provide water for this ritual, but everyone is also invited to bring water from their summer adventures... from your kitchen faucet, from the ocean, from summer thunderstorms... wherever you encounter water, feel free to gather some in a bottle, jar, or other container and bring it to worship. Everyone is invited to share in this ritual of gathering and community.
It has now been one year since First Parish began our program to become certified as a Welcoming Congregation. We are not yet finished with our initial program, and we don't know what the future looks like. The Welcoming Congregation committee has invited people from other churches to come to First Parish on September 23 to talk about their "Welcoming Congregation Journey" -- how they felt before the program, what they learned during their program, and what church has been like since they were first certified as a Welcoming Congregation. We will gather after church for lunch, a panel discussion, dessert, and a question & answer session. Mark your calendars now! It's important for us to think about our ongoing Welcoming Journey.
